Magnesium: I think that some form of magnesium taken orally is the best short term relief for constipation. The magnesium draws water into your colon and softens your stool. Get some milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) and take 1-2 TBS with a large glass of water.  May repeat in 12 hours.
       Make sure that you are getting plenty of fiber and fluid I your diet.

i have white film around my stool. i am 14 weeks pregnant and it started when i was using phenergan (promethazine) suppositories for nausea. should i be worried?

Medication: If you are using anal suppositories then you may be seeing some of the medication on your stool. You could try not using the medication for a while to see if this resolves the problem. If not then consider seeing a gastroenterologist to evaluate your bowel function

doctor good morning. my girlfriend 29 has had bowel problems before ie constipation. she now has a white film over her stools which look like rabbit droppings and feels sick in the morning ( not pregnant she did a test ) can you help pls. many thanks ?

She should see her Primary Care Provider...there is SPECIFIC TREATMENT for this functional disorder!

my stools always float, are brown/orange in colour, not foul smelling & have a little clear, oily film floating around after. should i be concerned?

Floating stools: And oily film suggest fat malabsorption or you may be taking some med(rx or otc) that has an oil matrix. Best to be evaluated by a GI doctor.

Fat in stools: if your weight is normal ( meaning you eat and gain weight normally) ( and not--- eat a lot but not able to gain weight) --- basically I am referring to malabsorption issues with gut---- you should be ok. If concerns about malabsorption --- from gut--- please see a GI specialist

see translucent film on h2o after stool. stool is normal. colonoscopy/endoscopy clear. take acid meds. doc said prob mucus not concerned. should i be?

Probably not: Without any symptoms e.g. Rectal pain or itching, abdominal pain and in light of normal GI  procedures you had done  i would agree with the gastroenterologist's impression.

my cheeks seem to have a film over them what could this be?

Accepted Answer

Keratin: If the film is white and does not go away and is on both sides perhaps you bite into your cheeks when you normally bite or chew. This causes keratin formation there from this trauma. There are other reasons too  but some history & exam is needed. Did it just appear all of a sudden or you always noticed it? On one side or both side of cheeks. Point it out to your dentist so it can be monitored.

Bleeding with stools: There are many reasons - hemorrhoids, anal fissure, constipation - there are some other reasons but given your age they would be considered rare. If this continues then please get checked as anemia can be a problem.

Can be: Soft stool can be a healthy finding. However, soft stool does not exclude the presence of other abnormalities, such as occult blood in the stool.

Multiple causes: How long did you have flat stools?
Any other symptoms?
Irritable bowel syndrome can cause flat stools for a long time.
