Possible Problem: The area under the tongue is not a place to wait, if there is a 'lump'.  This area is full of potential spaces and many have direct linkage to the throat and heart areas, which can cause fast and severe problems.  Do not be scared, but do not hesitate to have it properly evaluated by your Dentist.  A Differential Diagnosis is required, then possible Tx or biopsy, if indicated.

See your doctor: A sore throat is pain and irritation of the throat that often precipitates when you swallow. The most common cause of a sore throat is a viral infection that resolves on its own with at-home care. Drink water and get a good rest. You can use otc cold medication. If your pain is not improving after 7 days, see your pcp for evaluation and treatment.

 primary herpetic stomatitis, apthous stomatitis, coxackie virus all have similar presentations. Because they are viral in nature, there is not much to do besides wait them out, attempt to help the symptoms with childrens motirn/tylenol following the instructions on the bottle, and make sure your child does not dehydrate. Pedialyte/pediasure can help replenish fluids.
