All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your White cell count is mildly elevated and may indicate and infection. However, the red cell count you reported is unlikely to be correct. Talk to the doctor who ordered these tests.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Tell them.: Tell them to explain better.  Do not take her home until some one tells you what you need to know to feel comfortable with their plan. There job is to give you the tools you need to be able to care for her safely and give you instructions that include signs that should be watched for that indicate that being at home may no longer be a good idea. Be polite, but insist on an plan that reassures you.

Numbers are numbers: Lab results are numbers, and numbers are just numbers. They have little meaning without looking at the whole person. One's primary care doctor can review the big picture and decide if these numbers are good, bad, or neutral. For example, one might want to know if the numbers were higher or lower last week or last month. Of course, an important question is why was a blood test done.

Have you asked?: My first question to you is "Have you asked your doctor?"  and, if so, have you asked "Is this a problem"?"  My best advice is to ask your doctor these questions.  If your WBC count has remained stable for 5 years and you don't have any progressive symptoms, there's an excellent chance that the problem hasn't been addressed simply because there isn't a problem.  That certainly is my hope for you!

A little high...: But cannot be judged without other information such as presence or absence of symptoms, the differential count (percentage of different kind of white cells).  It can be nothing, probably is not relevant.

my white blood cell count was 6.25... is this normal or low? is it okay to take prednisone for poison ivy with this wbc count?

You're fine: Normal WBC. I trust lymphocyte and neutrophil counts were fine also. Take the prenisone for the poison ivy only if it's so bad you can't sleep otherwise. We're glad to help.
