Back pain: Less likely from bolts or rods dropping. If you have a spinal disease at a level, you can have  pain below that level because of cord compression . Please get examined by a doctor asap.

Osteoarthritis: As we age, the discs in our spine degenerate, meaning they lose water, elasticity, and can weaken. A disc coming apart is called disc herniation and can cause pressure on nearby nerves (this produces radiculopathy when symptoms like numbness and weakness occur from the nerve irritation or injury). Mild degenerative disc disease means the disc has mild signs of aging but not effecting nerves.

i have multiple hemangiomas in spine (t12, l1 through l4.) do these show up on ct scans as possible sclerotic lesions? i take it they are not cancerous? thank you for your help.

Not cancerous : Yes haemangiomas would show on CT scan and their appearance would also be affected by whether they are calcified or not

It : It sounds like you have significant multilevel degenerative disease of the spine.   I would recommend seeing a spine doctor and spine surgeon since you are in severe pain even though you are undergoing conservative treatment (anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxer and physical therapy).  You may benefit from steroid injections or surgery.  I would recommend discussing work restrictions with that doctor.  Good luck!

how long after getting a spinal fusion in the t12-l1 would i be able to go to classes?

Depends: Fusions can be done in different ways. A more minimally invasive procedure ( if appropriate) could have you back in 2-4 weeks. Other types could take months for recovery. Realize that the underlying problem that requires a fusion determines how extensive the procedure has to be. In addition, a t12-l1 fusion is an unusual place to need this type of surgery, so more info would be needed.

i broke the transverse processes of my t12 & l1 vertebrae two weeks ago. i feel no pain doing normal activities, but how little should i be doing?

Not limiting: The area you fractured is in the area where the spine is just beginning to get a wider range of motion. In reality normal movement s won't be harmful but to be safe I wouldn't do any heavy lifting, strenuous exercise involving bending and twisting  have your doctor follow the healing process

It could cause: symptoms,  depending on the degree of displacement/compression.  Signs of conus medullaris syndrome include low back pain, numbness in the groin or inner thighs, leg numbness, and foot numbness. Other symptoms include leg weakness, loss of bladder control, difficulty walking.  You should discuss with your doctor what the MRI finding means in terms of your clinical situation.

No : As yet there is no "cure" for spinal cord injury. That said there are  many  potential areas under investigation.  There are   ways  to improve on current function depending on the completeness of the injury. A cord injury at t12 L1 is often  a lower motor neuron injury and there is some possibility of peripheral nerve recovery and repair on its own.

Pain: Pain is the most common symptom of a compression fracture. If the fracture is displaced you may need to see a spine surgeon. Most people do not need any procedure. Some people do not know they have a fracture in fact. You should make sure you get enough calcium and vitamin D if you are low and ask your doctor about other medications involving bone health called bisphosphonates.

on 4/12/16 i fractured t9,t11, t12,l1. the va did nothing. still intense pain & now they suggest p.t. outside dr said kyphoplasty. will pt work?

Depends : It really is based upon the specific cause of your pain.  If you had multiple vertebral fractures in April, 2016; they should be well healed by now.  Kyphoplasties are usually not considered an option in fractures over 6 months for the reason that by then they are usually healed.  You need to be evaluated for the exact cause of your pain, then you can choose best options for you.
