Low: At 48, your ovaries are still functioning, but the chances of a baby are low.  Risk of trisomy 21 is 1:8, risk of trisomy 18 1:33, and risk of any chromosomal abnl is 1:5.  I would be weary, though, of a rei doctor that was willing to do so.  Consultation with a board certified rei doctor should be first step.

A little too late!: Certain tests such as FSH are available to test your ovarian reserve. However, typically patients under the age of 30 or so are chosen as egg donors

Yes.: Assuming that the ovaries were not removed. Until menopause a women, barring pcos, hyperprolactinemia, will continue to ovulate.
It is even possible to have eggs fertilized, which can be implanted in another woman's uterus.

Just the same: A hysterectomy does not make retrieving a woman's eggs more difficult. A needle is inserted through the top of the vagina, while watching with ultrasound, and into a woman's ovaries, and the eggs retrieved through the hollow needle. (amazing, isn't it?!).

Yes: Yes.  It's simple.  An egg retrieval involves placing a needle into the ovary.  No cervix or uterus needed.

Grown back ovary: I would speculate that they left an ovary and didn't actually take it out if there's still one there. I would absolutely talk to your surgeon and get some imaging to confirm that it's an ovary. They don't grow back. And also you cannot get pregnant as there is no uterus to support a pregnancy.. Talk to your OB and get some imaging tests to evaluate

Sure: If you have functioning ovaries then a fertility medicine doctor could do that.

is it possible to get some eggs  before having total hysterectomy?  my wife is suppose to have it in 3 weeks and she already missed her last period.

Possible....: But it is unlikely that you could find a specialist that would be able to harvest eggs in that short of a time period.  If you are serious about wanting to harvest eggs, you may have to consider pushing back the hysterectomy.
