Eye doctor: Most styes do not need surgery. Antibiotic ointment and warm compress.  However, if you have a stye that is no resolving your best choice is to see an optometrist or ophthamologist.

Sometimes: This is called a chalazion and is the incysted remains of the eyelids battle with a stye.  These are benign, can be small or large and will occasionally go away by themselves, especially if assisted by applied heat.  If it bothers you, it can be removed in an office procedure which does require a little surgery.  Some also might inject it with steroid which can also get rid of it.

Yes: fades with time: This should fade with time over a 2 year period. Vlpl may help but is considered overkill. Use sunblock and silicone gel. No tobacco use.

Try warm compresses: It if is a stye, it may help to drain it. If this isn't resolving consider getting it checked to find out what it actually is.

Non surgery first: A stye is treated with frequent applications of moist heat for a while which usually will cause it to be absorbed or to discharge.  Only if persistent despite treatment are they removed. By opening.  Try the heat and if this does not work, then see your ophthalmologist for intervention.  This is done under local, minimally uncomfortable and with rapid healing.

No.  : Most of the time it will resolve with lid scrubbing followed by hot soaks.

Compresses: Place warm, wet compresses for 10 minutes three to six times a day. Don't try to squish or squeeze your stye.

Accepted Answer

Healing: Itching is a frequent component of healing.  This occurs anywhere on the body and can take place in the lid as it is combating and healing from a stye.  Scratching the lid is a little difficult;  you can obtain relief with very warm compresses.
