Accepted Answer

Until old-age: Adult teeth continue to grow, but very very slowly.  Normal chewing/grinding help to keep the teeth at appropriate length. An unapposed tooth can grow long to cause problem. Excessive grinding, more often during sleep, will wear out the teeth earlier...But your teeth probably don't stop growing until old-age. Healthy teeth=healthier body/heart. See dentist regularly. my whole set of lower permanent teeth is hurting badly ever since a little bit of a molar (i think) appeared on my gum. but it isn't the wisdom tooth. what should i do?

Need X-ray : See your dentist so an x-ray can be taken of the area to see if you have a tooth issue or not.   Hard to guess without an exam and x-ray .  You can take some advil (ibuprofen) in the mean time to try to control the pain

my granddaughter is 8 yrs old and has sucked her thumb forever; for at least the last year, we tried to get her to stop, using a mitten, bandaids, duct tape, rewards etc. her permanent teeth are coming in very large and spacey. what to do?

Use the appliance...: As much as i hate having to use these, i would tend to lean toward an appliance if the habit is continuing through 8 years old.  The appliances do affect speech since they get in the way of the tongue, so this might be a good motivation for your granddaughter since she won't want to have to speak with a heavy lisp for 6-10 months at school & have to explain to her classmates why she has this.

Yes: If the permanent tooth is already soon to erupt. If too soon, extraction of the baby tooth could cause a permanent tooth to become impacted.

Small mouth: When we are children our mouths are small and adult teeth would be crowded. As the mouth grows we need bigger teeth to fill it.

No: Some children lose their baby teeth secondary to trauma, and they do not have any earlier eruption of adult teeth.

Ortho Eval: Schedule a consultation at an orthodontist. They should help guide you.  Your nephew may need some primary teeth 'assisted' out by a dentist.

More info needed....: What is the condition of the primary teeth? Do they need to be extracted? How much bone support do you have? What are the financial considerations for your dental care? Although many people wear and tolerate dentures, if you have to loose all of your teeth you should consider dental implants. They're an excellent investment in your long term health and well being.
