Depends: This is dependent on a few things including your physicians protocol, and quad strength. The protocol i follow begins light straight line jogging at three months post op. Consult with your physician and/or physical therapist.

Running`: I usually tell my acl patients to wait 3 months before running. They usually have been on a bike for at least 6-8 weeks by that time.  You should ease into it by running a block or two and then walking a block.  Most patients can get back to running fairly quickly at that point.  Always listen to your knee especially if it swells.

Surgeon Decision: Physical therapy after surgery should always be guided by the surgeon. In general acl recovery takes several months so don't be surprised if you are on restrictions for quite some time. In any case pick a good surgeon and trust him/her.

Acl screw: Recommend you get it checked out. The screw may be prominent causing some pain.

ACL recon: 22 year old lady s/p ACL reconstruction. What method did your surgeon use? Patellar tendon, Achilles allograft, hamstring? Rest, ice your foot until pain free then return to your running activity. Compress with an ACE and elevate if swollen. If any significant bruising or continued pain see MD. This is a sports injury probably not related to your ACL recon however you can discuss w/MD

Acl failure: Acl graft can fail for many reasons. Usually it's a repeat injury. Other reasons can be discussed with an orthopedic surgeon.

Technical reasons: Less then optimal position of the graft in the femur and tibia can result in loss of motion, laxity and failure
then again you tore the one you were born with and you can tear a graft.
 Seek guidance from an experienced knee surgeon.

Stable knee: An acl reconstruction that heals well should provide you with a stable knee. Other variables such as the status of your knee joint cartilage and especially the status of your medial and lateral menisci also weigh heavily in determining your final degree of functional painfree recovery. Immediately postoperatively, you will have mild to moderate pain and swelling relieved by oral pain meds.

is it ok to shower after acl surgery?

Yes: In general, it is okay to shower. Each surgeon has his/her own preferences, so i would go by your surgeon's instructions. I generally let my patients shower the day after surgery. The small portal incisions usually heal enough after the first day so that the risks of infection or wound breakdown are quite rare.
