Probably : Chickenpox is caused by a virus, just like flu. After the outbreak is resolved, the virus may lay dormant in the dorsal root ganglion, which is part of your spinal nerve. It may then get reactivated at a later time as shingles. This will cause lots of pain & rash. When the shingles resolve, if the virus damaged part of the nerve one can develop nerve pain called post-herpetic neuralgia.

: You can ingest whatever you want at this point. Chickenpox lesions in the oral cavity can make acidic foods painful, but if these are not present, I see no need to restrict your diet.

Don't scratch!: The most important thing to do is avoid scratching as that can cause more scarring. Keep your skin clean- take baths or showers regularly. You can try caladryl clear for itching, or take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) by mouth. Infected sores are most likely to cause scars, so use an antibiotic ointment if a sore looks redder or has yellow drainage.

The question is ???: People seldom went in for medical evaluation 35 yrs ago when they thought the problem was something simple like chickenpox. It was easy to over diagnose when only a few spots were present. People do get it for the first time as adults & it can be quite harsh. Many have significant disability & a mild encephalitis while rarely a pneumonia can require intensive care. Most recover without problems.

Steroid/antiitche : U treat the symptoms which is itching & picking. Steroid &anti itching creams r ur cheapest using otc products. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) also will help. If not enough c ur pcp for stronger strength steroid cream & if bad enough u may need a Medrol dosepack.

Tinea versicolor?: I  suspect it's another easily treated condition. See a Derm and get properly diagnosed!

my hostel mates r suffering from chicken pox. i already had it twice 3 yrs ago.i have started having small red skin rashes. not 3rd time pox right?

Very unlikely: It is very unlikely to get chicken pox for a third time.  Sometimes, people think they had chicken pox but actually had some other rash.  In those folks, they actually may not be immune to chicken pox, and may catch it during an outbreak.  If getting a rash, one can check with a doctor to see what it might be.
