Quick healing: The tongue is a quick healer so if you burn your tongue you shouldn't have significant long-lasting problems. You might have tenderness and/or numbness at the burn site but it should heal within a few days.

Time: Like any burn, it will take time to heal the site.  Immediately applying ice will coo.The tissues rapidly to lessen the damage and reduce seeking.  Keep foods softer and blanser for a few says to lessen the continued irritation. A numbing agent such as ambesol will make things a little more comfortable. It will just take time to heal.Unless you know someone with an nd:yag laser which works great.

Sometimes the cause is unknown and the diagnosis is called burning tongue syndrome or idiopathic glossopyrosis. You will need to be assessed by a dentist and possibly referred to other specialists to get an accurate diagnosis.

Tongue burn: Nature will heal it  rather quickly. Avoid hot and spicy foods meanwhile. Rarely is anything more required. There are topical ointments you can purchase at the pharmacy to numb and\or promote healing in extreme cases. Rinsing with salt water is a simple and effective aid.

Acid reflux: Your discription of symptoms sounds more like acid reflux, or heartburn, rather than anything to do with the taste buds.  I would see your primary care doctor to have this evaluate as you do not want to led it go untreated.

so i have been diagnosed with oral thrush. this has been going on since the beginning of march. none of the antifungal meds are helping. my taste buds are really large, my tongue is white and dry, it burns every once in a while. what's going on?

"Burning Mouth": This sounds like the "burning mouth syndrome "which is a poorly understood problem. Typically it occurs women over the age of 40 and is felt to possibly be under hormonal control. It's also possible that it could be secondary to a virus. Extremely annoying I have found that relief can occur with a low acid diet and rinsing your mouth with mylanta liquid after each meal and before bed.

Possibly: Can be a few causes that create same effect- allergies, spicy or bitter foods, temperature of foods,beverages, etc.  Over-aggressiveness of brushing can irritate the taste buds too...even certain toothpastes may affect the taste buds.   Meds, supplements also
