this didn't happen and hopefully never will but i've been reading dangers of toddlers swallowing button batteries. how soon would symptoms show and what?

Sudden colic: It is hard to define the delay before symptoms as ingestion is often unrecognised. Abdominal cramps/pain/sudden change in behavior may be your only signs.The button battery generates an electrical current that can destroy tissue and the battery eats through the wall of the stomach or intestines.This allows digestive debris including germs to leak into the inside of the body.Disaster is predicatble.

Not likely: Depends on size of button, and if it ends up blocking something, in which case you would be swelling, and abdominal pain - most will pass thru the colon and out of the system if they are smaller.

Not that common: Button batteries are bad because the electric current does cause chemical burns in the GI tract. However, it usually only happens if the button is stuck somewhere. If a button keeps moving around and eventually out the anus, there may be no symptoms. Batteries that don't get stuck in the esophagus (and cause burns) usually pass through without burning any holes, but doctors do follow-up carefully.

how long should i wait to see if it passes through and out of her system? if it doesnt come out should i be taking her to a dr for x-rays or anything?

Wait 1 week : If the button is wooden, not metallic, it will not show up on an X-ray. If she is breathing and swallowing liquids and solids normally, you do not need to worry. She will likely poop it out within a week. When a child swallows a small object about the size of a dime, it passes right through. The only really dangerous things are button cell batteries and magnets.

This could be an ulcer, gastritis, or GERD
An exam will be necessary to differentiate and make a correct DX.
Take your husband to a DR.

Acid reflux : It sounds more like you might be experiencing  acid reflux and as a result heartburn.  This may make you feel sick and with a burning sensation which at times can be very uncomfortable or painful. Start eating a diet low in fats and irritant free, so avoid fried foods , sauces, caffeine, mint, tobacco, among others. Anti acids like Tums help as well as otc meds like zantac (ranitidine). If persist f/u with pcp.

Hernia Repair: If you have an umbilical(Belly Button) hernia and you're having pain, you should have surgery to repair the problem. Following surgery and healing, you'll be able to exercise without pain or risk of hernia incarceration (intestines getting "stuck" in the hernia). The combination of diet modification and exercise will allow you to lose weight. Liposuction after achieving goal weight if necessary.
