i've noticed blood coming with my stool sometimes but today i noticed a thing hanging in rectum and when i touched there was blood . what should i do?

You should see: A colorectal surgeon. This may be a hemorrhoid or a rectal polyp. No amount of bleeding should ever be considered normal. You may need a colonoscopy depending on your age and history and what is seen on the office exam. Don't delay. Not an emergency but also not something you should ignore. Get it checked out and taken care of.

always have a piece of string hanging out from the end of my stools. is this fibre? i have taken meds for pinworms a few weeks ago. nothing moves

Need sample: This unusual fiber in your stool could be parasite, mucous, or fibrous material from your diet.  Direct observation, possibly with a microscope, would likely be required to make a positive identification.

i have seen a white thread hanging out of my stool. it was about 4cm long. is this undigested food or a worm? i do work as a nursery nurse. i also take esomeprazole 40mg daily for acid reflux?

: Vegetative debris, there is no thread worm that is that long &amp; the longer intestinal worms are a lot thicker.

basically my stools have come out smaller and feel like there should be more. when they're soft, they're like the texture of refried beans. i'm going more frequently. basically they're not as bulky. should i be worried? help?

: There are many questions that need to be answered concerning this issue: what is the quality of the diet? Any new medications or supplements? Any associated abdominal pain, blood in stool, etc. So basically you need a visit with a doctor in person on a no urgent basis to discuss this more.

Rectal Bleeding: At 11yo probably a minor laceration-possibly from a large stool that caused irritation/inflammation.  Possibly even a small hemorrhoid, but this should get better and resolve. If he continues to have rectal bleeding, even at 11yo, he needs to be seen and evaluated by the Dr. Best wishes.

Sounds like: constipation. Recommend increased water/ hydration, ^ exercise and more fiber/ bran in his diet.

Accepted Answer

No laxative: There is a huge difference between laxatives and stool softeners. First, increase the fiber in child's diet and how much water child drinks daily. If you have tried this and stool still hard, then stool softeners such as MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) can be helpful. Steer clear of actual laxatives - these can cause more problems than they solve.

No other disease?: Each person with constipation needs to be sure there is no other disease causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber+water, Miralax, (polyethylene glycol) Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, other laxatives... A doctor can evaluate and prescribe helpful medication too. Exercise also helps.

Can be: Soft stool can be a healthy finding. However, soft stool does not exclude the presence of other abnormalities, such as occult blood in the stool.

why is my stool so dark?

Accepted Answer

Several possibilitie: Stool can be dark from iron pills pepto bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) or foods like spinach. Black tarry stools may indicate bleeding from the stomach area and should be checked right away.
