i had a 2nd / 3rd degree burn 1 month ago. 
it is healing since when it happened.  i put silvadene on it. shouldn't my skin now be a natural skin color because it's a deeper pink after 1 month? 
also should i continue to apply silvadene on it?

Burn: If you had third degree burns - would recommend that your physician examine wound. Bottom line is that it may take quite a while for the skin color to lighten. Silvadene is usually used until healed.

Physical findings: Surface smears of a cellulitis usually do not grow the causative organism. Sorry about your burn. If there's a reasonable suspicion that the burn is infected, an antibiotic is appropriate. Best wishes.

See a plastic/burn : 3rd degree means full thickness. U need 2 be seen by a burn specialist. Do not put any oils and such on it. If the area is large enough a scin graft will b needed. Plastic usually follow burns, b cn!

Full thickness: 3rd degree burns are full thickness burns that require debridement and aggressive dressing changes. Infection is a very possible complication so sterile dressings and wound care is imperative. Seek care with plastic surgeon or burn specialist.

If it doesn't heal: A 3rd-degree, or full-thickness, burn is all the way through the skin and will require operative closure, usually a skin graft. A 2nd-degree burn is only partway through the skin and will heal on its own in 1 to 3 weeks with good wound care and good nutrition. Therefore, a burn that isn't healed after 3 weeks is probably 3rd-degree in depth.

SImple basic care: Burns are response of the tissues to injury from heat. It is simply inflammation which means increase blood flow to promote healing. Depth determines care.  Use of ice worsens already injured skin. Cool water soaks help as can taking anti-inflammation medicines like Motrin or advil (ibuprofen). Avoid any further damage as this can cause scarring . Good skin cream applied daily/gently helps, keep it covered.

Exercise in futility: It depends on where the scar is. Sometimes surgical revision helps. Sometimes cortisone injection helps.

For burns, pressure therapy with silicone often helps. Once there is a scar there is always a scar. The goal is to make it less obvious.

Take pain med: Technically, a 3rd-degree burn is a full-thickness burn (all the way thru the skin) & the nerves are burned away. Such burns are therefore anesthetic & do not hurt. You probably have a 2nd-degree, or partial-thickness burn. Such burns can hurt a lot until they heal. You can try simple pain meds, such as Ibuprofen or acetaminophen. If you need something stronger, you should see a physician.
