Bland and simple: There is no special answer here except keep it bland and simple.  Usually you don't want anything more than this anyway.  Avoid fatty foods that are heavy on the stomach.  The main thing is to hydrate readily with sports drink and listen to your body - it has a way of telling you what to eat and what to avoid.  Your appetite will return to normal as the illness passes.

Possible: Sore throat, fever, cough, body aches, and sometimes diarrhea are the usual symptoms influenza. Other viruses may cause some or all of these symptoms

Possible: Flu shots are terrific, but they do not cover 100% of the flu strains. Also, when did you get the shot? It takes about two weeks for your body to build up full immunity to the strains it does cover. You could also have a really bad cold or a number of other viral or occasionally bacterial infections that should be self limited. If you do not start to get better after a cple days though, see a dr.

Appendicitis: It may well be a viral illness but with right lower side pain he shouold go to the ER to make sure it is not appendicitis

Flu?: If you hopefully had flu vaccine, probably not. If you are unvaccinated it could be flu or other possibilities. Call your General Practitioner or Urgent Care. Explain your symptoms. They will tell you if you need to be seen for examination.

Possible.: As you note, the two may actually occur together. This is why medicine is not done by machines. Constipation could be the result of dehydration secondary to nausea ( poor intake) and vomiting.  Make sure you stay hydrated.

Viral: Viral gastrointestinal infection is very likely in your case and it usually runs its course in several days requiring no specific treatment except light diet,good fluid intake and Tylenol (acetaminophen). It may take longer for the fatigue to resolve,however.
