why would i have an allergic reaction to homemade lobster hours after eating it(approx 5 hours)? this has never happened before.

Not un usual: An allergic reaction can sometimes be delayed for 4 to 8 hrs after exposure. Would see an allergist to investigate this further.

Difficult to answer: Seafood includes shellfish and fish.  Shellfish includes mollusks and crustaceans.  You describe being able to eat a sea dwelling fish (tuna) and a crustacean (shrimp).  Therefore you are not allergic to seafood.  Lobsters and crabs are crustaceans and share the same allergy inducing protein tropomyosin. It does not appear you are allergic to that  or you would have had trouble with shrimp.

Rapidly leaves: 1/2 life  depends on dose  3-10 hours with low dose  and 8-15 hours with high dose

We usually say it is out after  5  1/2 lives bt there are  tissue effects too - maybe 3 weeks

i had a severe allergic reaction to keflex. can i trust taking other antiobios in the future without being pre-tested? how to know if allergic again?

Accepted Answer

No penicillin: I'd avoid all penicillins and cephalosporins (of which Keflex is one), the latter having about a 5% cross reactivity to penicillin, until i can get tested.  There are plenty of other antibiotic types which can be used, if needed, such as sulfa based antibiotics and quinolones. Speak to your doctor so you can be prepared in the event of an infection .
