Renal equals kidney: The kidney is the basic engine of the renal system.  It is what processes the wastes and corrects the chemicals in the body.  The remainder of the renal or genitourinary system is the plumbing that allows the liquid wastes of the body to be eliminated.

Absolutely: People with kidney disease have a higher risk of hormonal and reproductive problems. Incidence of erectile dysfunction is higher. Pregnancy rates in women with advanced kidney disease are much lower, and the chances of getting pregnant are directly proportional to the severity of the kidney disease.

Probably not a: Major issue if the anatomic variant doesn't allow retrograde (backward) flow of urine which is a set up for recurrent kidney infections.

Possibly: There are reports of such damage and you need to discuss this w/ your doctor. It may be possible to catch it before it becomes permanent - I hope that's true. In any case - don't ignore it. See your doctor ASAP. Best!

Maybe not: There are thousands of supplements advertised to do all sorts of magical remedies. Very few supplements have real research studies to show benefits (but manufacturers make claims based on theories, animal tests, testimonials, chemical similarities, etc... instead of based on real research because real research is hard to do and is expensive to do).

i plan to donate a kidney to someone this year but i also plan on becoming pregnant within a year. could a missing organ effect pregnancy or unborn?

Depend...: If the remaining kidney is healthy, it could be okay. But, it is hard to say because the course of pregnancy may be unpredictable though rare to be a concern. For more general &amp; specific individual details, please ask the team of renal transplant. Best wish to health and family...

why do we still die of organ failures? i thought modern medicine has all the machines that can replace organs. for example, dialysis for kidneys, no?

No: Modern medicine is awesome but the human body is incredible. We can mimic the kidney with dialysis but we can't quite get it right. Eventually we fail. We have not been able to do it nearly as well as the body itself. Our body is actually programed for death through apoptosis, or death of the individual cells. The only cell that live forever are cancer cells.

does sleeping at 4-5am and waking up at 3-4pm has any effects on my internal organ such as bladder,kidney,ect or it just effect my sleeping rhythm!!  ?

No: If you mean going to bed at 4 to 5 am and getting up at 3 to 4 pm- it does not affect your internal organs.  Most people do not need 11 to 12 hrs of sleep.  You do note pregnancy in the clinical findings so that could add to fatigue, but I would suggest getting evaluated to make sure that there are no other issues.

i have pain in my right lower back after walking for about 15 minutes. oct. 2010 i had an incident where i bled out and all my systems shut down.  could this be kidney related?

This : This does need to be evaluated based on your past medical history. It could be musculoskeletal pain. Try to note if the pain radiates down your leg when you get it. Because of your history of kidney problems, you should be tested for infection or blood in your urine. Please see your doctor, share your past medical history, and schedule a complete evaluation.
