Turkey baster method: Affectionately referred to as "turkey baster" technique or method but using needle-less syringe as you've noted is an inexpensive & low tech way to get pregnant. There are many websites describing how this can be managed assuming your partner or semen source is willing. Just be sure to hold still for a while to give sperm a chance to travel. Please ask your doc: Usually they want you to do that which should not be a big deal so you can maximize your chance for successful pregnancy, u can read a book or use your cell phone or watch tv or computer while u are laying down.

what do you mean by "failed"?
Why do you need artificial insemination?
What is the quality of the sperm?  Whose sperm are you using?
You need instruction and demonstration.
See your gynecologist / fertility specialist.

Artificial inseminat: Artificial insemination (ai) can be performed intravaginally with unprocessed semen or intrauterine with washed semen (semen processed to remove the seminal plasma --which can cause severe cramps).  If your performing the standard ai you don't have to insert the semen very far into the vagina.  Intrauterine insemination requires a lab to process the sample, and a special cathether to insert.

Probably not: I presume you are considering intrauterine insemination (IUI). For that you would need specialized sperm selection media, an incubator, and an insemination catheter at least. Trying to perform an insemination with a simple 5 c syringe is unlikely to be successful.

More to it: You will get fertilized ( pregnant ) by a single live sperm during ovulation  by your home insemination  with 5 cc or 10 cc syringe , but there is more to it. You  to over come legal implication , future litigation problems, screening of the donor , chances of getting std s including , hepatitis, HIV etc , think about it before you undertake your home project and compelling reason  to seek help.

Here are some ...: With today's American standard, it's absolutely not advisable to do what you described to enhance the odd to conceive. Remember ovulation (fertile time) takes place some 2 weeks before the period. Starting insemination 1-2 days before and onward for 3-4 days provides the prime opportunity to conceive if all the functional/anatomical state of all involved genital tracts is sound and well.

Also, some women do "natural cycle" IUI (no drugs), while others use fertility drugs. The success rates average about 10% per attempt (no drugs) and up to 25-30% per cycle with meds.
