What you need to: know first is the diagnosis: what is the cause of your esophageal pain? Presume you have chest/upper abdominal pain and believe it is esophageal. While elaborate tests may not be needed, you need to present your symptoms to a doctor for a diagnosis to be made. If reflux or dyspepsia, then trial of anti-acids, acid (H-2) blockers or acid release inhibitor (PPI) needed with diet/weight loss.

Emergently: In most cases a torn esophagus is an emergency (if perforated) b/c of the connection to the mediastinum where the heart and other important structures live. Concern is for bacteria or stomach contents to enter into that space and causing inflammatory reactions and infection. Thoracic and in some cases ENT surgeon would be involved in treatment.

Diverticulitis: tge esophagus can have diverticuli but usually in one of two locations. They are both treated surgically. Diverticulitis is an infection of the diverticuli and that usually happens in the colon and not the esophagus.  May need more details here
