Leukocytosis: High WBC count can be a sign of infection need the differential count. It can be a reaction . But need an exam and follow up by a md.

Cold shower : Can do this for the next few hours. Or whatever. If you feel and seem well, and the white cells look normal, don't worry. There are also lab errors. Specimens get switched. There are tech glitches. You will never know for sure. Just relax

High WBC: To answer that it should be understood that tests results are taken into account with the things the patients, says, the examination, lab tests, and all other diagnostic tests.  This a mildly high lymphocyte count, which requires a follow up with your doctor in person. It can be of no concern or can be concerning.

Probably none: Many normal individuals have a modestly low white count, especially african-americans. It probably has no clinical implications.

Not necessarily : Sarcoidosis waxes and wanes and changes with treatment and sometimes without treatment. Note, steroids, occasionally used to treat sarcoidosis, cause increase in white count too.

CBC interpretation: WBC=white blood cell count, typically reported in mm3. Yours is 13,500. Normal is 4,500-10,800. Mild elevations can be due to infection, especially when mainly neutrophils, as seen in your CBC.  RDW=red cell distribution width. It is a measurement of variation in RBC size. Normal is &lt;14.5. RDW can be elevated for a variety of reasons. Usually represents an increase in early forms. Hope this helps!

No: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, a wbc count of 3.8 is not a reason to worry about, unless you get frequent infections.

Do not worry.: You are right WBC fluctuates and it could be used as an indicator along with other things like symptoms to determine what is going on in the body. It may go up or down with infection and different components may go up or down for various other reasons. If your child is otherwise is well, it is best to follow what your doctor would suggest because they have information to make decision to repeat.

Mum's right to know: Your mother is the one who needs to ask the physician for a diagnosis or the direction of the workup. If this is chronic lymphocytic leukemia, it is unlikely to have a serious impact on her health at least for many years.
