Check renal function: It sounds like there is a concern whether to do the ct scan with IV contrast. The doctor should check the kidney function by calculating the estimated glomerular filtration rate (egfr). This is derived from the creatinine level, age, and ethnic factors. If over 60, it's ok to give contrast (assuming not allergic). If less than 30, shouldn't get contrast. If 30-60, needs to be IV hydrated.

Well,: The plasma half life of iodine is 2 hours. However, iodine media is cleared of body within 24 hours.

Scan Dye Can: Scan dyes used for contrast can cause kidney damage called stress induced nephropathy 
it is more common in patients who already suffer from some kidney dysfunction like elevated creatinine level
but most of time kidney function returns to normal within couple of weeks but in some patients with kidney disease it can be permanent and can lead to end stage kidney failure, and rarely death.

IVP w/ contrast: Depending on what u r looking for, the "dye" (called iodinated contrast) can significantly improve the chances of finding it. While about 15% of kidney stones can b seen w/o contrast, that leaves about 7 out of 8 stones that can't be seen. The "dye" outlines the collecting ducts of the kidney (and the kidney itself); also, "X-ray tomograms" (not CT, but with plain films) can reduce need 4 contrast

Unlikely: Majority of ethanol is metabolized by the liver and kidneys remove only about 5 % alcohol in urine.

: The radiologist should perform an assessment of your kidney function, before use a contrast medium with the potential to harm kidneys. The contrast media in use are generally safe.
