HrmodialysisSurgery : Operation connecting an artery and vein directly to allow the vein to be used for hemodialysis.  No plastic out artificial material is used. The surgery uses superficial being that are easy for dialysis nurses to access.  This is an outpatient surgery.

what does it feel like to undergo hemodialysis?

Accepted Answer

Mostly nothing: In normal circumstances, many patients can sleep through the proceedure, apart from some discomfort on starting when the needles have to be inserted into the vein. Sometimes when blood pressure goes low patients get unawareness and may have nausea. Some patients feel cold. Ingeneral the proceedure is well tolerated and patients are watching tv when awake.

A good: "old fashioned" "balanced" diet is usually recommended although in kidney failure some restriction of protein is sometimes recommended to decrease the frequency of dialysis treatments.

Using saline: During hemodialysis heparin is used to prevent clotting in the system at entrance ( arterial end ) when blood returns back ( venous end ) unclothed state . Some times heparin is contraindicated ( like reaction to it etc ) then saline is used continuously or intermittent flush to prevent clotting in extracorporeal system .

Bad needle stick : Usually when the needle gets out of the vein due to different reasons (movement of patient, bad veins , poor initial placement) an infiltration of blood coming out of the vein occurs. The degree of severity is variable.

Accepted Answer

Will lower anxiety: Restyl is the brand name for alprazolam in India. It's marketed as Xanax in the U.S. The major form of metabolism is through the liver to an inactive metabolite excreted through the kidneys. 20% of the active form is found in urine. Since you're on hemodialysis, the drug should lower anxiety, similar to someone w/o renal disease, unless you also have liver disease which may cause stronger effects.

Blood transfer: Potential risks could be from re-use of needles, tubing, or dialysis cartitrdies/membranes. Other risks would be related sanitary behavior: not changing gloves and washing hands inbetween machines or patients; touching machines/paperwork with gloves on after touching patient. All of these require the transfer of hcv+ blood from one patient to another.

Dialysis methods: Hemodialysis as the name suggests is directly cleansing the blood of waste, there are incenter ie going to a dialysis unit 3 times a week, and home hemodialysis ie doing it yourself at home
peritoneal dialysis is home dialysis with a special fluid instilled nto the abdomen cavity which can also clean the blood through the lining of the cavity.

: They both can be effective. Not all patients qualify for the the criteria that is necessary to do peritoneal dialysis however.
