Surgery gets the eyes close together but will not hold time in position if the vision is not good in each eye so drifting is possible.  The goal then is limit the drift to a cosmetically acceptable level and hope it holds for a while.

More than likely: The night blindness is the cause of exotropia. There are many causes of night blindness, to determine which you want to know about , a diagnosis is needed.  A detailed history and exam is needed to help. Exotropia is a  out turning misalignment of the eye muscles.

Eye  patches: Strabismus , or lazy eye, is treated with various different methods. The goal is to avoid visual loss, known as amblyopia. The initial treatment usually consists of eye patches. Sometimes eyedrops ,   eye glasses, or surgery are needed.  It is important to seek the advice of an eye specialist to monitor visual acuity throughout the years. Talk to your pcp about a referral. Alignment =surgery: Persistent alignment issues will often require delicate surgery on the muscles that move the eyeball have your eye dr refer you to someone who has completed the training to do thei special eye surgery. They are often affiliated with children's hospitals or medical schools.

Yes: Most strabismis is treated with surgery in the operating room. 


You would be under anesthesia for it.

There is no laser treatment for it.

Depends: Certain strabismus types can be helped with pencil push ups, theoretically, trying to keep the eyes in alignment (look at pencil as you move it away & near). If amblyopia present (lazy eye), patching is needed if a young child.

Unlikely: Vision therapy supposedly improves the efficiency of vision but cannot in any circumstance improve eye position which is what is dysfunctional in strabismus.  Vision therapy is untested, unproven and generally a big waste of time and money.  Check with an ophthalmologist who is a specialist in strabismus in your area (frequently pediatric ophthalmologists) for the best information on your eyes.
