Here are some ...: You might be right you got bladder infection because you might have had plenty experience so you sense UTI is coming. But in today's standard of healthcare, it's not a good idea to prescribe antibiotics without analyzing detailed Hx + physicals + a urinalysis at least. i have had to take 3 plan b (leviciten i believe its called) pills in the last 3-5 weeks. i have had 3 periods in the last month, and this last cycle is current and lasted 3weeks. i have a dull pain on the left side of my bladder. what do i do?

: Best to be examined by your doctor. However, if you do not have one, Planned Parenthood would be a good option for a proper examination. Also due to sexual activity and desire not to get pregnant, using regular birth control would be better for effectiveness and your body and PP can handle that too. The current period lasting 3 weeks is itself a reason to be examined asap. Take care of yourself.

since 2 weeks, i have a weak urine flow & my urine flow ends before my bladder feels empty. no pain. i called my gp & she said that it's nothing serious and will go away. it's been 2 weeks so i'm worried about what it could be?

Urologist: Consult a urologist. Incomplete bladder emptying can lead to serious urinary tract infections. I assume you are not taking any medications that slow bladder emptying.  If not,there appears to be a neurologic disorder affecting your bladder function. The urologist will advise you after his/her assessment.

: I wonder if you talk about a procedure for urinary diversion which is done to create an ileal conduit by using a section of ileum to create a pouch which serves as a bladder and two ureters are connected to that pouch with opening on the lower abdomen. The urine will be collected in a bag, almost the same as a colostomy. This procedure is usually accomplished by a general surgeon and a urologist.

Safe medication : Overall this is a very safe medication.  The main side effects are dry mouth and constipation.  Serious side effects or allergic reactions are very rare

There : There are many causes of not being able to release urine.  This is often called urinary retention.  It can be caused by certain drugs, damage to the bladder from surgery or pregnancy, problems with the nerves around the bladder or the nerves in the spinal cord that communicate with the nerves in the bladder, but in children with this problem it is usually caused by a mistake in the structure of the bladder that the child was born with, often referred to as a congenital anomaly of the structure of the bladder. Retaining urine is not related to the kidneys, except in rare instances when a kidney stone or tumor is so big as to cause urine to build up in the kidney, but that is something that is pretty easy to distinguish from the infinitely more common problem of urine being retained in the bladder.

To understand what happens in children with this issue, we need to talk about the anatomy of the urinary system - a picture would be great here - but here we go.  We each have two kidneys that filter our blood and produce urine.  Each kidney has a tube, called a ureter, that collects this urine and deposits it into the bladder.  The bladder is an softball size bag that has the two ureters attached to the top of it, almost like purse strings, and atop each of these tubes is a kidney.  The ureters typically insert into the wall of the bladder so that when the bladder gets full of urine and stretches out, the tubes close up so urine can't flow backwards.

In kids with recurrent urinary tract infections, the ureters often will insert into the bladder in a way that lacks this safety feature, so the urine can travel back up through the ureter and back into the kidney.  This pool of stagnant urine is prone to recurrent infections.  Sometimes as the child grows, this becomes less of an issue.  Sometimes, a fairly simple surgical procedure is needed.

There are other more serious, but much less common, problems that can cause urinary retention and recurrent urinary tract infections in children, like spinal cord injury or tumors, so it's very important to be sure to insist that whoever told you about you daughter's condition do so fully, in a way you understand, and be able to answer all of your questions.
