i am currently taking chantix to stop smoking  and i'm also on steroids for bronchitis. are these two medications safe ?

Accepted Answer

Depends: Prednisone for short periods of time is safe. Chantix however is under scrutiny after a canadian study was published this summer showing a high risk of stroke and heart attack in patients taking the drug.  Like all medication the risk must be balanced by the benefit.  I have had a lot of patients have high success with chantix.

Accepted Answer

Not clear: I am not  certain what you are  asking. Corticosteroids can cause  muscle weakness what we  call steroid myopathy. Some people use Anabolic steroids to build up their muscles but this is not  an fda indication and which may lead to side effects especially over the long term.Caution - this is in the caution range. Not advised.

Accepted Answer

Depends: If you continue working out you will fall to a little more muscle than you would have had without the roids.  If you quit both you will fall off rapidly but the amount depends on an individuals baseline metabolism and can't be calculated in advance.

i was on steroids and antibiotics for a week, i finished yesterday but i've felt terrible since taking them and worse since stopping. is this normal?

Steroids: I assume you were placed on antibiotics and steroids for asthmatic bronchitis (coughing and wheezing). Hopefully the antibiotics eliminated any serious infection. Patients on steroids can feel weakness due to steroid withdrawal. This usually last only one to three days and then the patients feels well again. If not please see you physician again.

ive been bodybuilding for the last ten years and using steroids. i worry my hormones are out of balance after stopping,what do i need to do to fix it?

Labs are indicated: Chronic use of anabolic steroids is associated with suppression of the normal steroid production by the adrenal glands. In this case, seeing a primary care physician or endocrinologist for hormone level testing is indicated.

The answer: YES!: The problem is that all asteroids are systemically absorbed, some more so than others. Stopping steroids is always associated with rebound.  Look for alternatives with your doc! same is true for psoriasis!

my 3 year old is on 4 days of oral steroids for croup. how long after stopping steroids can he get the flu shot?

I'd wait 2 wks: If your local  flu season is active now I'd get it soon. A short course of steroids may not suppress the response much. If it is early in your season I would wait 2-3 wks to get the most from the shot. It takes about 2-3 weeks after the shot to have robust protection.

is it possible for steroids to be the only way to clear a contact dermatitis rash even after stopping the use of the culprit for a few weeks? i also have eczema?

: The correct way to prevent the recurrence is avoidance but the quick way to heal is using steroids especially you have history of eczema.

Anxiety: I understand your concern.
Migraines, muscle aches, and anxiety with panic attacks are not withdrawal symptoms from Nasaacort.
See ENT Specialist for nose and sinus problems and discuss Nasacort (triamcinolone) effects.
These symptoms can be due to a New Stressor such as relationship, marriage, separation, parenting, work and finances.

should someone suddenly stop steroids?

Accepted Answer

NO!!!: Stopping steroids suddenly, without tapering down the dose,  can cause sudden cardiovascular collapse.   If you are on a high dose for more than a few days, consult with your doc prior to stopping the medication.
