Stool w/ white bits: Mucus discharge occurs in up to 50% of patients with irritable bowel syndrome, with or without pain. Mucus may also be produced in response to partial obstruction, chronic constipation, rectal dysfunction, infection, & even from secretory villous tumors of the rectum. At the very least stool studies should help address if mucus white bits you're seeing are "worms" (pinworms, etc.) so rx can begin.

Black stools w/ iron: Dark-colored stools may result from iron supplements, foods you eat (like a lot of spinach), substances (like peptobismol), but most significantly suggests bleeding. When blood is denatured by acid in your stomach, as from ulcers, stools will turn tarry ("melena"). Blood may also be ingested from nose bleeds, bleeding gums... Persistent melena (without obvious cause) & symptoms warrants md visit.

Its OK: Not everyone who takes iron notices changes in there stool color, not everyone gets constipated. As long as your are taking them, thats important.

Get measurements: Make sure you are not taking iron to compensate for blood loss.  We do not lose iron unless we are bleeding.  So once we ruled-out blood loss, get your serum iron & ferritin levels measured because too much iron can cause oxidation, liver disease and heart disaese.   You don't want to become overloaded with too much iron.

Black spot: The black spot can represent undigested peel of the plum.

what could cause white specks in stool? they're very small, almost like seeds or bits of feta cheese. rest of stool is brown.

Probably not feta: Feta cheese would not look the same coming out, but sesame and other small seeds do look almost identical in your stool.  Otherwise unless you are sick in some way , having unintentional weight loss, blood in stool, then this is unlikely to be significant and almost certainly something you ate.

sometimes i have a strong urge to go to bathroom . and it comes out with a lot of gas noises and floats.stool is brown soft and formed.normal or worry?

No worries...: Strong urge to have a bm is most commonly associated with ibs or other food intolerance eg. Lactose intolerance.  Keep a food diary and see if there might be a pattern to your symptoms that would implicate something you are eating. Good luck!

ounce in a while my stool is brown with gray in it . but the next stool is all brown . should this be something to worry about . not taking antacids?

Not to worry!: See your dr if u have persistent or worsening abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, weight loss, loss of appetite, blood in the stool etc. Take care!

cleanup after bm is very hard. stool is brown, soft and formed. however always seems to be a lot to wipe and is mostly gathered at top of crack.ideas?

Seems strange...: I would expect that with a formed stool, cleanup would be quick. Normally, constipation or diarrhea presents more trouble. Perhaps this is a matter of obesity or incomplete evacuation of your bowels with residual stool present. If you have been in a hurry, how about you take another minute or so to make sure there is no stool left in the anal canal when you think you're finished?
