Eyedrops: If this is your only symptom and the vision is good and the eyes not hurting, then try applying over the counter lubricating eyedrops.  Do not use "gets the red out" type drops as these are drying.  Plain eye ointment at night is also helpful.  If these work, fine, but if it persists, see your ophthalmologist for the next sequence of treatment.

Sometimes: There is an association between inflammatory bowel disease and internal eye inflammation.  However, there are so many causes for irritated eyes which overwhelms the few that have associated chrohns.

Depends: First the cause of the red eye need to be diagnosed.  The red eye could be secondary to many reasons.  Red eye could be from dry eyes, allergy, blepharitis, sun damage, inflammation, infection etc.  If its from dry eye or allergy then artificial tears, allergy drops, lid hygiene and omega 3  will help.  Other causes will need medical attention.

Get he eye ck up : It will be prudent to stop using the eyeliner for now , till you get  your eyes checked by am ophthatlmologist.

A few possibilities: This could be due to allergies, dry eyes, or eye infections.  All can start or affect 1 eye first.  The treatments are very different. For allergies, zaditor (ketotifen) is a good otc eye medicine.  For dry eyes, lubricating tears are necessary.  For infection, usually of the eyelids, start with eyelid warm compress and diluted baby shampoo scrubs.  You should have a baseline exam with your eye doctor.

Needs evaluation: It depends it is best to have your eye doctor evaluate for cause of eye irritation first. Then use of eye drops will depend upon cause, how well you are producing tears, and how irritated you are by trying to get the eye drops into the eyes.

Take them out!: Irritation in contact lens wearers can be a sign of impending infection. Remove the contact lenses and see an eye doctor immediately.
