Avoid "fat burners": Our bodies like to use glucose (our main fuel), which comes from the food in the stomach and small intestine, and from the liver (where glucose is stored in a starch form called glycogen). As long as one is NOT eating enough to supply glucose to her cells, her liver will run low on glucose or glycogen, and her body will burn fuels like fat to keep her cells working. Eat less and  exercise more.

News to me: This is generally recognized as being as safe as coffee. Politics drives what is banned and not banned in the usa; totally safe stuff like saccharin are illegal, while obviously dangerous plant products comfrey and graviola remain in the shelves. If a celebrity dies while taking a supplement (as happened with guarana) there's usually a foolish media circus.

Alternative medicine: This medication is used, but safety and efficacy has not been established. I prefer not to promote or advise against use of this product as I am not familiar with it. "holistic" medicines are often not what's on the label, and the weird politics allows this; quack "herbal medicines" are in some areas the leading cause of liver necrosis.

I am really not sure why energy drinks have taurine, which is an Amino Acid that has a calming effect on the nervous system ; does not make people feel energetic. My best guess is that because the first energy drinks had taurine all the others have it because people now expect energy drinks to have it!see comment:.
