The most common termed 'open angle' has no known cause.  Effective treatment is available including eyedrops, laser and surgery.  You should be followed by an ophthalmologist because failure to treat can cause loss of vision.

Elevated eye pressur: Glaucoma is an eye condition in which the internal pressure is too high for the eye to withstand.  There are many causes but the most common, open angle glaucoma, is spontaneous and age related.  Uncontrolled, the vision can be gradually lost.  Pressures of 25-27 are suspect and over 30 is always treated.  The goal is to get less than 20 which usually is safe. A number of treatments are available.

Cataract is a clouding of the natural lens and treatment is surgical replacement with a clear lens when the vision is reduced to the point reading/driving is difficult.

There is none: For someone with absolutely no eye problems, normal pressure is thought to be between 6 and 21, but if you are suspected to have glaucoma, there is no normal. That's because everyone's optic nerves have different threshholds at what point pressure damages their eyes. Some live at 25 their whole lives with no glaucoma; others have very bad glaucoma at pressures of 12. Everyone's different.

Fluid block in eye: The eye has an internal clear fluid circulation 24/7.  This is called the aqueous humor.  The iris in certain shaped eyes (usually farsighted) can obstruct the outflow and within 1/2 hour the pressure can skyrocket to dangerous levels.  This is an emergency, can be stopped with certain drugs and prevented with laser.  See your ophthalmologist immediately if you suspect this condition.
