i have a burst vein on the side of my leg just below my knee is this something that needs to be checked by a doctor and how serious is it?

Vein burst: If it is a superficial vein and the bleed is small then it is not much of a concern. If it is a large area you may want to have it checked by your doctor. It also depends if you taking any blood thinners that may aggrevate the situation.

Heart: Heart is not typically affected in DVT and does not need to be checked, unless it is believed that a concomitant, not related, heart condition is present. Pulmonary embolism is a notorious, deadly sometimes, complication of DVT and that can cause heart strain.

can the doctor check if my vessels are healthy?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Generally a doctor will be able to determine the health status of your vessels. A proper evaluation will start with a history and physical examination. Hand-held doppler can screen for arterial disease, and for venous reflux should you have varicose veins. Ultrasound and other tests can be done if necessary.

hi i took my son to see doctor as i was concerned that his neck lymph were joint together. the doctor checked and said yes they are but wasnt concerned. said we have lymph vessels. i am confused as i thought matted was only serious condition?

: Lymph nodes are located throughout the body &amp; generally noticeable in exposed areas like the neck. They are usually pea sized at rest and enlarged when stimulated by bug bites, dermatitis, drainage or infection. They are arranged in chains connected by vessels like the blood vessels but these only carry lymph fluid. I wouldn't over think it when it has already been cleared as normal.

can any doc explain why are my veins so blue and prominent?

Yes: The color of the veins has to do with the interaction between the color of blood within the veins(usually a dark red) and the color of your skin.Fair skin often has bluer veins, darker skin may have deep purple to brown appearing veins. Veins become prominent for many reasons:age(less subQ tissue), hydration level, salt intake, heat, and varicose veins are all potential causes of prominent veins.

Location matters: Location of the prominent veins matters. If it is all over(arms/hands/legs, etc), it may be related to increased fluid load (i.e. after having a high salt meal), or due to ambient high temperatures. Veins dilate(become prominent/bulge) to help regulate body temperature (cold makes them 'shrink'). If it is just in one body part(a leg/arm), they should be evaluated to make sure nothing else is wrong

It will go down.: You should not worry the swelling should go down in time. In a day or two the body would absorb whatever got out to cause the swelling.

i it possible that this could be dangerous

Accepted Answer

Not likely: As this is routine for blood draws to be repetitively done in the same vein.  It can lead to narrowing of the vein and even blood clots but these are very uncommon occurrences and can happen with even one "stick" to a blood vessel.

good afternoon doctors. i went for bloodwork, and the phlebotomist had difficulty finding a vein..she then decided that it was better to use a butterfly needle because of my age. i am 62..can i do anything to make finding a vein easier in the future?

Accepted Answer

: A phlebotomist has the training to find veins when present. It is much easier on lean people than those carrying more weight, but anyone can have difficult veins. You have what you have, there is no way I know to make what you have an easier target.
