Motrin: If its pain due to inflammation, i prefer motrin, some people prefer tylenol, (acetaminophen) depends on what you respond to, sometimes one each of both are taken together.

i am not allowed to take tylenol (acetaminophen) or motrin for headaches so my dr prescribed fioracet. can i take it for muscle pain also?

No: Fioricet has tylenol (acetaminophen) in it.

May be: We need more information. Not all people have low C3 and low C4 when lupus is not active. You need to consider other causes also.

Tylenol (acetaminophen): about 8-10 tabs or 4 grams per day. 500 mg x2 is 1 gram.

Get an X-Ray: Try advil or Aleve (naproxen) for 10 days, if still hurts get an xray done to rule out rib fracture.

During a heart attack, chest pain occurs a blockage in the heart is cutting off flow to parts of the heart, causing cardiac tissue injury. This is manifested by severe chest pain that can feel like tightness and pressure in the chest.This pain can also radiate to the arms, back and jaw. Other symtoms include shortness of breath, sweating and light headedness.
 Always seek medical attention when you feel chest pain. Get help, call 911. Do not drive.

i have a dry socket. been taking about 2400mg-motrin and 1200mg-tylenol each day. been doing this 1 1/2 months(b4 tooth pulled).  safe? alternatives?

Packing: If indeed you have a dry socket your dentist can pack the extraction site with a medication to relieve the pain.  You may need to have the packing changed several times till the pain totally resolves.

None: I've never heard of a patient experiencing withdrawals from either of those medications.  The only thing i can think of might be a recurrence of pain if you have been taking either of them for awhile.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Tylenol (generic name: acetaminophen) and Motrin (generic name: ibuprofen) are different drugs, and can be taken together. Just make sure that you don't take more than the recommended dose of either drug, and that you don't take other medications (like cold medicines, or other pain medicines) that have Acetaminophen in them too. Also, avoid nsaids (like motrin) in pregnancy.

is it possible for you to take 500mg of tylenol (acetaminophen) while taking motrin 800mg?

Tylenol/Ibuprofen: Yes as long as you dont overdose on them.  Maximum dose for tylenol (acetaminophen) is 4000mg/1day and 2400-3200mg/1 day for Motrin (ibuprofen).  Also make sure you take food with Motrin as this can cause GI upset/gastritis.
