Natural Healing: The good news is that skin has fantastic blood supply and so healing will occur rapidly. Inflammation (red, hot, tender swelling) is the body increasing the blood flow to the injury to bring healing factors to the area and veins expand to carry bad stuff away. Dressings and ointments are of no value once healed.  Avoid further trauma to the area and let nature take it's course.

If actively infected, there is riks on transmitting virus to other people.

Maybe you can't: But it's worth a try.  Few suggestions - make foods you know she likes. May consider spicing a bit more heavily - but not too much on the salt.  Try different textures. Try multiple small meals throughout the day.  Use ice cream based drinks. Ensure there is no jaw pain, weakness, constipation, abdominal pain, urinary tract infection or swallowing difficulty.  Sometimes this happens at end of life.

Grieving: Remember that we all die.  Those that are grieving may need support and encouragement to go on, but time is the great healer.  Most of us recover fairly quickly and within months are better, but if this persists, counseling may be helpful from friends, clergy, psychologists, etc.  Try and find meaningful substitutes for your loss and try and imagine how the one you lost would want you to recover.

In addition to seeing a psychotherapist, you might also get a book on happiness--"the how of happiness" is a good one, but there are others.  Setting goals, striving, appreciating what you have and the good things that are coming your way, being generous to others with your time, learning something new might also help.

Sure: Nobody needs to work out or exercise, and nobody needs to eat right. However, recognize that obesity is associated with a shortened life expectancy and an increased risks of cardiovascular disease. We will all die sometime. It's just whether or not you want to die earlier than later. Working out is associated with better health and generally a greater self-esteem. Motivated?
