i always hear about resting heart rates but what is a healthy heart rate when standing up to walk somewhere? my resting hr is around 65, but when i stand up i feel like my heart rate shoots up to like 120 (i havent actually been able to measure it?

: You should actually measure it. A pulse oximeter is quite inexpensive and could put your concerns to rest. It probably doesn't jump as high as you think it does.

Tachycardia: Yes. As we age out heart rates decrease from normal newborn rates 120-160 to adult rates 60- 90 by early adolescent. A baseline of 120 at 19 pre exercise is exceedingly fast and should be evaluated with an MD soon with an ECG and other cardiac evaluation for arrthymias or congenital disease either cardiac or pulmonary or some other underlying diseases anemia cancers infection

If you develop: Symptoms, such as shortness of breath, chest pain, palpitations, etc. However, if you have known medical conditions such as anemia, COPD etc.  You may need to let your doctor know, especially this is new... Best luck!

Cardiology: Yes, you should see a Cardiologist, discontinue any energy drinks, decongestants, coffee, tea, Moutain Dew or other stimulants for now. That is abnormally high for a resting heart rate. A Holter monitor or event monitor might be instructive. At least see your primary care physician for an EKG and advice. If you are overweight, then start a weight loss program with a reduced calorie diet as well.

It is not normal: for a person your age to have a persistent resting heart rate over 120 BPM in the absence of significant clinical issues (fever, pain, anxiety, dehydration, anemia, thyroid disorder.) It would be important to diagnose the etiology of your arrhythmia as this will help to target treatment in the future. Go to the ER now. Do not delay.
