Green Stool: The most common ingested causes of black stool would be iron supplements, licorice, and peptobismol. Bleeding in the GI tract can also lead to dark stool. Green comes most commonly from bile in the GI tract.

Constipation...: Eat a well-balanced diet with plenty of fiber. Good sources of fiber are fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole-grain bread and cereal (especially bran). Drink 1 1/2 to 2 quarts of water and other fluids a day (unless fluid restricted for another medical condition). Some people may need to avoid milk, as dairy products may be constipating for them. Finally, regular exercise can also help.

Holding BM: This is not a good habit. having a BM is a normal physiologic process and trying to hold it back causes stool back-up which is never healthy - may also promote formation of diverticulae.

Water: Drink more water, if ineffective take 1 tablespoon of metamucil at dinner. If that fails then take miralax (polyethylene glycol). If that fails see your GI doc.

Yes: Stool is made up of the waste byproducts of what you eat, plus dead bacteria and sloughed cells from your intestine. If the food you eat contains little insoluble fiber, your stool is more likely to be soft and unformed.

Something bad: Constipation is one of those things that a person cannot let go on for more than a few days, because the food he eats forms poop, and where would the poop go? There is no way to relieve constipation except to get the poop out. There are many ways to do that, depending on the condition of the poop, the patient, and the plans of his primary and gastrointestinal doctors. The poop must come out.

Depends: Straining or irregular stooling does not mean constipation.The nb breast fed kid may go 7-10 days without a stool or poo a little at each meal.As long as it is soft, i don't consider that constipation. If the kid is putting out dry rabbit pellets or stool bigger than your finger you can sometimes tease a stool out using vasaline on a q-tip  inserted to the length of the cotton & worked around.

Normal varies: The number of bowel movements that defines normal can vary from person to person. If this is how its always been for you, and you are comfortable, feel well, then it's fine. :).

Conditioning..: Somehow you have conditioned your body to respond to taking the lortab..It is an autonomic nervous system response. There was a famous russian physiologist pavlov who trained dog to salivate at the sound of the bell...In your case, your gut is responding to the "lortab", eventhough that short time is not likely truly having an effect yet..
