Usually not: First of all, the old biology-class story that "IgE fights parasites" isn't true; it's mostly about worms, not the protozoa you mention. Usually we never find the cause for a high IgE, though some folks with bad allergies run high levels and there are a handful of uncommon diseases where they run high. Best wishes.

No: Ige is elevated with allergies that can cause a sore throat, it is not elevated with viral or bacterial infections.

does an ige level of 582 (normal 0-100) indicate chronic protozoal infection (or some other infection)?  if not, what does it indicate?  on electrophoresis i was free of m-spikes, but don't know if that looked at ige, so is ige myeloma possible too?

No: Allergic diseases , especially eczema, are more likely to be associated with an elevated IgE level.  Do you have symptoms which prompted the IgE measurement?  As far as IgE myeloma, it is very rare condition and the level is not high enough for making this diagnosis.  If you have no symptoms otherwise, I would just monitor your progress.

Allergies: An elevated ige is usually associated with allergies. There are other rare conditions that may cause ige to be extrememly elevated.

Consider testing: The ige level that was measured is considered to be extremely high. If your son has pulmonary symptoms, a chest radiograph may be ordered by your physician to document structural changes in the airways.
There is a condition called abpa which afffects about 10% of asthmatics and CF patients. Airway fungal sensitization can be measured and tests ordered to detect reactions to fungi as well.

WBCs elevated,ige: This senario of elevated eosinophils, lymphocytes and total ige, will most probabely a person has allergic disorder and a viral infection.

Maybe: Allergy is from a skewed immune reaction to otherwise innocuous substances- usually a protein.  People with allergic asthma are  more susceptible to respiratory infections for this reason.  Allergy does not usually cause body aches although sleep disruption from your allergic conditions may cause body aches and fatigue.  Uncontrolled asthma can cause fatigue. See an allergist.

i am a 21 years old girl and i experience chest pain and throat pain regularly. in my cbc report my platelets are 87k which were 97k almost a week before. high ige levels of 1300 and high aso levels of 684. i often feel pain in both knees. cause?

: Your test results are abnormal but it is not easy to figure out the etiology (cause). We rarely base just on lab reports to make a diagnosis. You need to discuss with your primary doctor first and if you do not satisfy with the diagnosis and plan of care, you can seek a second opinion. Good luck.

Usually allergy: In your son's case, the elevated IgE level is likely related to his allergic diseases. However there are also less common causes for elevated IgE level .   Since 20% of the people don't respond to allergy shots and it may take up to a year to experience benefits from them, you need to talk to your allergist re. medication required to control his nasal congestion and ear issues.
