Get them evaluated: This is impossible to answer without an exam. Are the ankles painful or is it just fluid retention? I would start with your own doctor if you have one.

Maybe: I often do send my patients for blood work when they come in with complaints such as yours., especially if u have a family history of ra or other inflammatory conditions. You should first see your family doctor about this

Not always Rice.: There is a big difference between a swollen knee and swollen ankles. There appears to be a little too much water in the wrong places to use the RICE solution. Something else may be in the workings. I suggest you see your doctor for a thorough evaluation.

Right leg pain: Swollen ankles can be a manifestation of congestive heart failure, dependent edema, liver problems, anemia, varicose veins etc. Right leg pain is worrisome, it may suggest blood clots, phlebitis, cellulitis, vascular disease, etc. Immediate evaluation by her primary physician is recommended, she may need a doppler studies of her legs/vascular surgery evaluation if necessary.

Maybe: Blood clots are possible and could just be swollen and painful. Best advice is get examined please at the emergency room for an ultrasound. Good luck

Edema is a known: Side effect of felodipine...It is reversible with discontinuation of the drug and not likely to be serious.  Of course stopping the drug will increase BP so talk to your physician about suitable replacement to see if swelling is due to drug.

Have it looked at: A sprain injury can result in redness, bruising, swelling, pain, and possibly instability of the involved area.  An x-ray will be able to assist in differentiating a sprain form a fracture.  Have it evaluated by a professional and get the appropriate treatment.

If : If you have not had a basic work-up of these joints yet (to include plain radiographs) and you have complained repeatedly of pain in these joints to your physician, it may be time to change doctors. Good luck, i hope something is found that can be corrected!
