starting peeing blood with chills. went to doctor and had a urine sample and a blood sample. they gave me a round of ciprofloxacin 500mg to cure for bladder infection. could it have spread to kidneys or be more severe then expected?

: When lower urinary tract infections are treated quickly &amp; properly there are rarely complications. However serious complications such as kidney infection &amp; damage can occur without proper treatment. Drink a lot of water &amp; consult your treating physician immediately if symptoms recur. Back pain: You need to be seen and carefully evaluated ASAP. Do not delay this. You may have an infection or other non-infectious inflammatory condition and it may involve your kidneys, spinal cord or other areas. Please get this seen to quickly before you become increasingly ill.

Urinary infection: It appears that you had bladder infection which caused  transitory blood and protein. Probably you had white cells  as well as leukocyte ester axe positive in urine . If you have diabetes and no protein then micro albumin should be checked periodically. If you are feeling well, folllow up urine is normal, no further work up at this time.

UTI &amp; Blood: A urinary tract infection (UTI) can cause blood in the urine. More importantly, the infection can ascend to the kidneys causing back pain and a more serious progression of the infection if untreated. Hopefully, your infection has been treated with antibiotics.

See your doctor: Your vomiting could be due to medication side effects but if you are also having chills it could mean that you may be having pyelonephritis which means the infection has ascended up in the urinary tract into the lower part of the kidneys (especially if you also have fever and flank pain plus your high wbc) ). You need to see your doctor to be rechecked and for a possible change in antibiotics.

Both abnormal: Blood in the stool and blood in the urine both need to be separately evaluated as to the cause with appropriate blood tests, imaging studies, and endoscopy. If bleeding from both are occurring at the same time, one would also want to make sure the coagulation system was normal.

Assessment needed : Including urinalysis to work through a variety of possibilities including infection bladder stone or local urethral or vaginal issue.  See doctor for an examination and consideration of tests

Family practice : You may have ruptured a blood vessel with staining. You are young so blood from your prostate is less likely.  Uti in young men again is less likely. See your dr and have an urinalysis.

Blood in urine: Blood in the urine is not normal and should be evaluated. Possible causes include infection, stones, blood disorders, trauma and tumors. Your doctor can help sort this out.
