Shooting pain: Where? If starts in your back and goes down your leg, maybe a. Herniated disc. An exam would help answer that question.

It depends.: One of the most common causes of these symptoms in a person your age is sciatica. Sciatica simply means leg pain from a low back problem. The nerves located in the lower back can be affected by arthritic changes or disc abnormalities. The condition can be very painful and disabling, but is usually treated successfully without surgery.

: To perceive an "electrical" sensation, the needle may have punctured your dura, and touched the spinal cord, but w/o a significant headache, it will heal quickly, and the steroids will suppress any inflammation.  If a headache develops, see the physician who performed the epidural for what is called a "blood patch".

Nerve pain: You are pinching the nerve that goes to your leg.As long as there is no weakness ( one sign is knee buckling) or persistant numbness, just change your technique ( crunches, suspended knee/leg  raises).
Due to your age, you may have a herniated disc in the spine or a compression fracture ( sign of osteoporosis)of the spine.These would require an evaluation and appropriate imaging, and treatment.

Sounds like : You have sciatica/radiculopathy. Visit an orthopedist or neurologist for confirmation and treatment.

Keep moving: Two things to consider.  First, consider further testing to ensure see if the back and leg pain you have may be more than just related to your  connective tissue disease.  For example, a disc herniation is a very treatable condition and could be diagnosed on an mri.  Finally, although it is not simple, find a way to keep moving even while at work.  Good luck!

You : You may have ruptured disk.  I would recommend seeing a physical therapist, but if you can not afford it you could try to look up mckenzie exercises on youtube.  If it worsens or does not improve you should really see a doctor.  Good luck!
