Thyroid deficiency: I see that you have had a thyroidectomy. Your thyroid hormones are probably not at the levels that they need to be. Ask  your doc to check your thyroid function in greater detail and adjust your thyroid deficiency  accordingly.

It's your genes, man: I'm really sorry that anybody told you that keeping your hair clean or using stuff to give it shape is going to make you bald. Male pattern baldness is genetically programmed and generally runs with how much chest hair you're naturally blessed with. You can slow it down with medications, or embrace it, shave your head, and get really physically fit -- nothing a man can do looks better.

Alopecia?: There is a condition called alopecia which causes the hair to fall out.  This is different from male pattern baldness which is genetic and not a disorder.  It can be in patches or the entire body. A dermatologist can tell you if you have alopecia (an autoimmune disorder) and treat it.  Peace and good health.

Androgens: Female hair loss can often be a problem involving hormonal fluctuation and high androgen levels. Talk to her Dr to see if she can use topical or oral anti androgen medication. A full evaluation and labs may give you all a better idea of why the hair loss is happening.

It's probably not: ringworm.  Nizoral (ketoconazole) pills are dangerous to the liver so I would get in to derm, you may just have alopecia areata

A dermatologist will help you get the correct diagnosis and find a treatment plan to get you back on track.  Most of the time hair loss is reversible, especially if caught early.
