i've missed 2 periods. and i noticed yesterday a clear/white liquid from both breasts. could this mean i am pregnant? i need advice and help! i've taken tests and im not sure if im doing them right, but one was positive the other negative. can you please

The : The only way to know whether you are pregnant or not is to take a test.  False negatives are more common than false positives, so with a previous positive test, you may indeed be pregnant.

You can either take a home pregnancy test as long as it has been 5- 6 weeks since your last normal period, or you can go see your doctor and they can test you. A home pregnancy test is 97% accurate if taken a week or more after the missed period and a doctor's test can tell around when you should be getting your next period. Did you take your first test too soon?

There are other reasons besides pregnancy that can cause a woman to miss a period such as: stress, diet, excessive exercise or a hormone imbalance such as with a thyroid disorder or polycystic ovarian syndrome. If you continue to have an irregular cycle or breast leakage, you should give your doctor or your ob/gyne a call. Good luck!

See your PCP: Discharge from the nipple if you are not pregnant or breast feeding may be a sign of prolactinoma,which is a benign tumor in the brain producing a hormone called prolactine.It may also affect the adjacent parts of a gland called pituitary in the brain by pressing on it and causes dysregulation of your other hormones produced by the pituitary gland.see your PCP for referral to an endocrinologist!

Tested when?: Don't know when in your cycle that you tested or if you have missed your period. If you have missed your period - that would be an optimal time to test, can repeat a week later if still no period.

i have a black liquid that comes out of my nipples when i squeeze my breasts, sometimes it starts out clear or milky and then gets darker until black, and sometimes it the opposite. theres occasional pain. would like to know what this could be?

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you. Black discharge is usually from altered blood. Any abnormal bleeding, black discharge equates abnormal bleeding, warrants evaluation by a doctor.

From nipple? : Possible causes for galactorrhea include but  not limited  birth control pills, tricyclic antidepressants, antipsychotic meds, some sedatives, fennel, anise, fenugreek, some hypertension meds, cocaine, opioids, hypothyroidism, prolactinoma, renal dz, testosterone deficiency in men ; significant breast stimulation. If from bumps on areola (brown area around nipple) then probably montgomery glands.

See your physician: Any sort of odd discharge from your breast should be evaluated by your physician.  Reasons for the discharge could be serious.

Pituitary fxn: Nipple discharge, if not explained on mammography, may be further assisted w/ a complete endocrine function, particularly serum prolactin level from the pituitary gland. If elevated, an MRI brain would be warranted.

Probably not: Nipple discharge especially from multiple ducts and both breasts may be physiologic , but there may be underlying hormonal changes which need medical work up.  Nipple discharge from one breast and one duct usually indicates presence of an abnormality in that particular duct. It may be benign and sometimes malignant. Therefore you need to have a work up prferably by a breast physician.

Multiple causes: This can be normal or pathological. 

Breast discharge can come from the glands or the ducts. Bloody discharge is most concerning. Stimulation can cause some milky discharge. Birth control can cause discharge as well.

If the discharge is coming from both breast and multiple ducts it is less concerning.

I would recommend seeing your doctor to evaluate this. Sometimes it can be a hormonal issue.

Breast discharge: Nipple discharge is a common complaint and can be due to many reasons. It's not usually to worry, but if it continues you should see a doctor for an exam and necessary tests.
