Borderline: Not everythng is black or white.You could have a blockage in an artery which is not severe so that maybe it has nothing to do with your symptoms. The result then would be inconlusive. The test is not totally normal but the problem may not be severe enough to cause symptoms or require treatment.

What it says: "inconclusive" means that the test, whatever it was for, didn't show a definite positive result for a particular abnormality but didn't definitely rule it out either.  A better answer depends on knowing what the test was for; for example, an HIV test can be clearly positive (you have been exposed to the virus), clearly negative (no evidence of exposure) or be equivocal and need more tests.

You do a third test: Not sure what test you are referring to. Some things like a qualitative pregnancy test or strep screen are either positive or negative. No definite answer: This means it is not clear whether you have either.  Get tested again.  Do not have intercourse if you are having any symptoms (discharge, pain, burning with urination).  Use protection from now on after this is squared away, and save yourself a lot of grief.  There are worse and permanent nasty diseases to get besides these two diseases, too.  Be safe!

Contaminant?: There may be something that is causing a comtamination of the result. Hcg is a hormone, but it can have cross reactivity with other hormones in the blood in some instances. Fertility drugs and medications that contain HCG might interfere with pregnancy tests for hcg. Perhaps an antibody in the blood could be interfering also.

Pregnancy test: This means that your HCG  level  is elevated but still  low enough that it does not trigger a "positive" for pregnancy. It may just mean that  you need to retest when the HCG has increased, or sometimes it can be due to  a complication like an ectopic pregnancy.

Unclear: Are you and the doctor talking about the same test? If so, perhaps the test is precisely on the border between positive and negative. The lab might then call it negative but the doctor might not be so certain. A follow up test in a couple of days should clarify things.

MRSA inconclusive: Usually, unresolved results due to PCR inhibition are inconclusive. Consider repeat the test if clinically indicated. Ask your PCP for more information.
