Hard to tell: There are no telltale clues like that. It usually causes abdominal pain, diarrhea, loss of appetite and weakness. Almost always there is a history of recent antibiotic use.  It would be odd for a 24 yr old to have this. Usually it's in people over 55-60.

Stool odor: There are many doctors who feel that they can diagnose cl. Difficile by the odor of stool, but do not know that the smell is metallic.  The best thing to do is to have it tested.

C. difficile colitis: It is difficult to know for certain without testing you. There is an increasing frequency of failure of therapy with recurrence of symptoms in a slowly progressive manner. Might suggest you start using a probiotic or eating 2-3 cups of non-pasteurized yogurt each day to develop colonic flora that will suppress the Clostridium difficile.

Yes...: The burgundy color may indicate blood in the stool.  You should call your doctor and discuss this or be evaluated by the er or urgent care.  C.  Diff has been reported to cause bloody stools, but the amount of bleeding needs to be assessed to be sure that nothing more serious is going on.

C.diff: It may take upto one week to get the stools to get back to normal and may take up to 4-6 weeks for complete recovery of colitis.  Good luck !

can you get c diff more then once? confirmed and treated 7 months ago... confirmed gone by 2 more stool samples that both came back negative...

Yes: Clostridium difficile colitis can be a recurrent and resistant infection. If your symptoms have returned you should see your doctor to be retested.

C. difficile: If you are having continued diarrhea, fever, rapid pulse, breathing heavily and having food race through your GI tract without digestion you need to go back and see a doctor asap.  This condition can turn very severe very quickly. See a GI doctor or an infectious disease expert now.  Hope you are better soon.

Possible: Antibiotics themselves have diarrhea as a side effect, so this is possible, but if your condition is getting worse, don't delay and call your doc.

Sounds like bleeding: Blood in stool is a warning sign. Brisk bleeding warrants emergency care. Causes of bleeding may be predictable (e.G rectal trauma), but evaluation is always appropriate. A rule of thumb (but not absolute): black stool means bleeding comes from upper GI tract; grape jelly stool from small bowel; silver stool from biliary tree; burgundy stool from right colon; red blood from left colon to anus.
