Not gross hematuria: In fact not common at all.  One form called IgA nephropathy or berger's disease is the one most associated with hematuria.  In many instances there can be microscopic red blood cells seen on a urine analysis or dipstick.

No: The urinary tract and the digestive tract are different systems.  So if you are having bloody urine, especially if you are having urinary frequency and pain when you urinate then you need to go to the doctor to get checked for a urinary tract infection.  If you are starting your period or you have a site that is bleeding externally than that might be causing the blood in your urine.

Only if.............: The uric acid has formed a stone, which may be without sx or cause exquisite pain. Sometimes, blood in the urine is all that is seen.  If your uric acid is elevated, stone formation can occur! apart from dietary modifications which can lower uric acid slightly, if appreciably elevated uric acid reduction requires Allopurinol or uloric!

No,...: Anyone with visible bloody urine has to be properly evaluated especially in those &gt;45 without UTI. More 85% of bladder cancer patient have either gross hematuria or microheamturia, which can appear off and on and most of them has no urinary symptoms. So, one with so-called painless total gross hematuria has to be ruled out bladder tumor, usually cancer. And don't take wishful thinking in this.

However, a urine cytology (a lab test that looks for malignant cells in the urine) may not always be positive even when bladder cancer is present.  This may be due to a number of factors including having a lower grade tumor.
