Knee strengthening: I recommend that you check which she'll physician.  Most patients will car at least 6 or 9 weeks before returning to normal activity.  In the meantime, I usually recommend that my patients do intense quadriceps strengthening to help stabilize the knee joint.

Muscle strain vs ?: Most likely, she sustained a muscle strain but if it continues or worsens, it's obviously more serious. Typical muscle strains can be managed w/rest, ice, compression &amp; elevation (last 2 may be difficult in this situation) as well as OTC pain relievers. If OTC meds aren't enough or if she develops shortness of breath (difficulty breathing) she needs to be evaluated immediately.

Fused back: Well your ambition is great but its not a good idea to cheer lead with a fusion having been done in 3/4 of the back. Why dont you go with something less stressful.

Yes: Acl tears occur with twisting or pivotig movement of the leg while weight bearring or a blow to the leg 

cheerleading can involve athletic maneuvers to do this
soccer football skiing etc also

swelling and pain and giving way are common after these tears.

Don't: A safe , healthy diet balanced with a good exercise program is the way to go.Be patient and 2-3 pounds per week seems like the best way to go.

Examination by an: Orthopaedist is key.  We can often tell by exam only. An MRI can be used to confirm the diagnosis.  People typically complain of instability in the knee or "giving out" especially with side-to-side movements or twisting of the knee.  The knee is typically swollen and can be stiff.  Pain can vary from severe to minimal.

See below: Depends on the type of injury.  Simple musculoskeletal injuries would require the riice mnemonic only ( rest, ice, ibuprofen, compression, elevation).  Other injury treatment depends on the type.
