Complex: The diagnosis of lyme disease is usually on a clinical basis.  Serologic testing should not be done for screening purposes.  False positive results are very frequent in patients with autoimmune diseases, particularly rheumatoid arthritis, and particularly when these are IgM antibodies.

It's tempting to try: ...to find one condition that explains ALL abnormal findings.  High esr,and c-reactive protein may be related to Rheumatoid Arthritis but can be caused by other conditions too. Low hematocrit, hemoglobin, mcv, mch &amp; high rdw suggest an iron-deficiency anemia, not RA per se.   However, meds for RA (including aspirin-like meds) can cause anemia &amp; other abnormal tests.  It IS confusing!
