Not routine: It is not tested for routinely on regular outpatient urine drug testing. If you are suboxone your doctor will check you randomly to make sure you are telling the truth.

Not so: Usually skipping a few meals produces mild ketonuria, and non-fasting isn't a problem here. Is there a misunderstanding? High ketone levels have a variety of causes, most importantly diabetic ketoacidosis and aspirin poisoning.

GC, chlamydia: Gonorrhea and chlamydia can be detected with urine tests. Most other std's are detected by blood tests.

Accepted Answer

Inaccurate: Too dilute urine may not provide accurate results and not just for bacteria. A usual specimen for urine analysis is the first voided sample in the morning. Talk to your doctor about repeating the test.

Temporary, maybe: 24 hour urine tests for catecholamines are checking for epinephrine, norepinephrine, & other compounds that can be produced by catecholamine-secreting tumors called pheochromocytomas. Panic attacks alone might temporarily raise these levels, but not in sustained fashion like one of these tumors can. When present, pheochromocytomas can cause anxiety and panic attacks and raise urine catecholamines.

Both: Urine protein when measured as mg/dl does not take into account the concentration or dilution of urine. A 24 hour urine protein quantity would be the best thing to do. However, urine protein-cratinine ratio corrects for the concentration or dilution of urine and generally obviates the need to collect 24 hour urine.

Which test?: A 55 year old male needs to be checked with a scope to rule out bladder cancer, unfortunately.  This is a treatable disease that often presents with persistent microscopic blood in the urine and you'd want to catch it early.  Be well and thanks for trusting HealthTap!

Possibly: in general, it is a good idea to do the urinalysis before a digital rectal exam of the prostate. It's impossible to know if the white blood cells would've been present in the urine if it is been checked before the prostate exam though. either way, I believe that the presence of white blood cells in the urine dictate a urine culture be performed

Investige: It is abnormal to have protein in the urine; it implies kidney disease which may be related to drugs, infection or something else.  It needs investigation

over the last year i have had mucus strings in urine. heavier in the morning and fewer as the day progresses. three naat urine tests show negative for gonorrhea and chlamidia. any ideas on what could be causing this?

: I assume there is no mixture of your urine with bowel movements.I assume you have no symptoms of urinary burning,frequency,or urgency.  Tiny amounts of mucus in urine is usually not significant but large amounts, especially with an odor, is different. A urinalysis with microscopic examination would give an idea of how much mucus is present&amp;see if pus cells are present. ?Had culture ?Saw urologist.
