That's the name: Hand care/hand surgery developed as a sub-specialty during the second world war; we have no latin name.
Hand surgeons come from orthopaedics, plastic and general surgery; we have additional training in the upper limb beyond our post-graduate residency.  We treat problems of nerve, vessel, bone, joint, skin; we treat the upper limb and hand as a functional unit... And work with hand therapists.

Call PCP for appt.: As a PCP, I feel as if I am better suited to treat this.  It is not clear to me that this is a breast issue and may be a waste of time to see the other doctor.  I would see the PCP, especially if you can get in sooner.  Good luck!

General dentist: You need an evaluation by a general dentist to determine if the boil is gum related or tooth related. If a specialist is required, the general dentist will make a referral.

i had a negative emg over a year ago but my hand specialist doesn't seem to think i'm worth retesting. i'm still in pain. why won't he do a mri?

See details: He won't order an MRI because he believes it has no diagnostic value in your situation. If the first EMG was normal, there is no reason to retest. Back pain is not related to hand numbness. Get a 2nd opinion with a neurologist.

had a biopsy for a vulva lesion. got a call today to be referred to a dermatopathologist and a bunch of words i didnt understand from the results. would they have just said cancer if it was cancer? why would they send me to that kind of specialist?

Specialist is needed: The pathology report from the vulvar biopsy obviously posed a number of questions that the original Pathologist could not determine from the tissue specimen. When that occurs, a referral to a Pathologist who specializes in vulvar skin samples is needed and required. It does not necessarily mean :cancer".

Hopefully helpful: Usually a back specialist is an ortopaedic surgeon or neurosugeon who specializes in back disorders.  There are other specialists who do non op care such as physiatrists, neurologists as well as some anesthesiologists who may do pain management.

Varied: There are many specialist associated with  the spine. As an orthopedic spinal surgeon I am bias to that specialty as the premier source for treatment. But there are equally good neurosurgeon in the field.  When  surgery is not needed, there are interventional anesthesiologist who are trained in treatment of disorders that respond to injections. P.T, chiropractors, & pcp should be consulted.
