Disc failure: It implies that the disc is deteriorated at the intervertebral level putting additional stress on the joints of the spine, the facets.  If all conservative measures fail, a well done spinal fusion can solve the progressive problem.

what are the differences between a laminotomy and a bilateral laminotomy?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes nothing: Bilateral means both sides.  Depending on the completeness of your surgeon in his discussion with you, a laminotomy may refer to unilateral (one sided) or bilateral (both sided).  Many minimally invasive surgeons (like myself) perform both sided laminotomy through a 1 sided exposure and hence dissect through less muscle.  Both procedures involve removing a small piece of bone and ligament.

It is degenerative: arthritic change of the posterior facet joints of the spine. Mild vs. moderate is based on the subjective opinion of the radiologist.  What matters is whether the facet joint arthropathy is related to your clinical symptoms, not the subjective distinction between mild/moderate arthritis on imaging.

Deficit continuum: Cognitive impairment is assessed by various neurological and neuropsychological tests.  Such impairment can be described in scores or other test values, which are sometimes also categorized as "mild, moderate, or severe."  such general descriptions of impairment, of course, over-simplify the actual functioning or presentation of the individual.  They do help when a quick abbreviation is needed.

Both are gastritis!: Difficult to determine mild to moderate. For either one, get proper diet ; treatment from your pcp.

2nd answer: It is possible for echos to change. For instance, one may develop a right ventricular cardiomyopathy during the interval. All diseases have a date of onset. More likely however, the first echo missed it. RV size is hard to judge on a routine echo unless it's marked or the reader is alerted to look for it by other clinical data. The 1st echo should be re-evaluated with this new data.

Concussion class: There shouldn't be any classification for mild moderate severe concussion.  That is old thinking.  Every concussion is as serious as the other.  Some people recover faster than others .

Cardiomyopathy: right ventricular enlargement is a size measure, cardiomyopathy is an abnormality of the heart muscle. They are not the same thing though cardiomyopathies can cause chamber enlargement.

LVDD grading subject: The subjective scale of diastolic dysfunction: absent - mild - moderate - severe. Diastolic dysfunction is usually related to "stiffness" of the heart, which in turn, is attributed to the pressure of the blood flowing back to the heart that it has to deal with (diastolic blood pressure &amp; pulmonary artery pressure). Depending on condition, the right medication can keep it from progressing. TTYD.
