can epididymitis  cause a lump on side of testicle?

Yes: Epididymitis, which is inflammation of the epididymis, can result in a firmer enlargement of the area just behind the testicle.  The area is also usually tender to the touch.  It is important to get your urine tested to make sure that you do not have a urinary tract infection that is not contributing to the inflammation.  An ultrasound may also be done to ensure that there is no mass present.

Here are some...: Varicocele is varicose veins of pampiniform venous plexus of spermatic vein, which present in some 15% of men with 90% of them on left side and 10% on both sides; spermattocele is cyst(s) of epididymides, which contain light milk-colored fluid with sperms, usually at the head of epididymides. Several things: A small, hard lump that is attaching to the testis itself could be cancerous..So check with your doc...Especially if this a new finding.
If been there long time without change, it is less concerning.
Spermatocele, cysts etc..Can be firm but often not too adherent to the testis itself.
To be sure, check with your doc for an examination and possible ultrasound..

Need evaluation: Could be several causes of pain and lump in the testicle, but the most concerning is testicular cancer.  You need to be evaluated by your medical doctor as soon as possible to have an exam and possible ultrasound.  Other causes include infection, spermatocele, varicocele.

There are other causes of scrotal masses, though and a Dr should examine you thoroughly to rule out other more serious problems: epididymitis, hernia, varicocele, tumor.

No: If you have a new mass on a testis, your physician needs to see it. We don't want to miss testicular cancer. There are a lot of things in a guy's scrotum and he should be familiar with them; the concern is if anything changes and especially if one of the testes becomes notably larger. Testicular tumors develop without respect to how much or how little you enjoy your body. Hope you do self-exam.
