: Tinnitus occurs when you experience ringing or other noises in your ears &amp; isn't caused by external sounds. Tinnitus is generally caused by an underlying condition such as age-associated hearing loss, infection, meds, an injury to the ear or a circulatory system problem. Tinnitus improves with treatment of the underlying cause. You should therefore be examined by a physician as soon as possible!

If it is open always, it can cause you to hear  your own breath sounds. It should get better with lying down. Or you could have a superior semicircular canal dehiscence, which means a compartment of your inner ear has a hole in it. It will not make your symptom better with lying down.

Ear issues: It may simply be that the eustachian tubes are blocked due to swelling or fluid behind the ears. It should resolve on its own but if it does not you should see your pcp for a possible ear drum rupture.
