No: Herpes is caused by a virus, whereas ureaplasma is another type of organism.  They can certainly be transmitted through sexual contact however and treatment is different for both issues. Both partners need to be screened and treated

can ureaplasma cause there to be yeast in the urine?

Accepted Answer

Ureaplasma: This organism is one potential cause of non-gonococcal urethritis, often a sexually transmitted disease.  The use of antibiotics to treat this can result in secondary yeast infection (vulvovaginitis), but the Ureaplasma itself does not cause yeast in the urine (and in this case the yeast is probably coming from vaginal secretions contaminating the urine specimen).

Mayne: Ureaplasma causes an inflamation in the urethra wich has the same symptoms as a bladder infection.

if i get a urine test to see if i have ureaplasma while im currently taking amoxicillan, will th amoxicillan cause it to be negative even if i have it?

Accepted Answer

Maybe, but why?: Probably there is no point in being tested for ureaplasma, unless maybe if you are under the care of an STD specialist. Ureaplasma is present in up to half of all people, so your test is likely to be positive, but usually it is harmless. If you have symptoms, a positive test would not mean Ureaplasma is the cause. Amoxicillin probably would not make the test falsely negative, but it is possible.

Maybe miscarriages: Ureaplasma & mycoplasma hominis have been implicated in single miscarriages or recurrent pregnancy losses. The studies are not high quality, but it's relatively cheap and easy to give a course of antibiotics to women who have had one or more miscarriages, & their partners. Mycoplasma genitalium may be a cause pelvic inflammatory disease (pid). See a rei specialist if ttc without success.

can ureaplasma cause bv and does it show clue cells like bv under microscope dr said they don't treat so just treated bv scared ill get it back?

Potentially: Ureaplasma has been associated with resistant BV infections but usually is not treated per se. This is one organism that is looked for when working up women with recurrent miscarriage and infertility so it may be important in those situations. It does not show clue cells under the microscope.

No: It is an infection that should be treated but it does not normally cause birth defects.

if i was sexually active , is it necessary to get test for ureaplasma parvum ? , because im scared from it when i read online that it may cause a meningitis and pneumonia ? can it cause meningitis and pneumonia in adults ??

: This is now considered a commensal and normally present in some women in the uterus. It is of vey low infectivity. Take the usual precautions when you have sex and you should be alright

No: It is a bacteria in the vagina and has nothing to do with the menstrual cycle.

some say ureaplasma doesnt cause ngu, if all other normal culture tests were negative (trich, m gen, sti panels , viral tests including rna testing), what else could cause the ngu?? getting a microgendx soon but just wondering what is common?

: NGU results from chlamydia (20-30% of cases) and Mycoplasma genitalium (15-20%); and uncommonly Ureaplasma (maybe), herpes, trichomonas, herpes, other viruses (like adenovirus) (under 5% each). All totaling ~50%. The causes of the other 50% of cases are entirely unknown; research on this has been unsuccessful for several decades. MicroDX has not been studied in NGU, but unlikely to be helpful.
